HAM Radio License Exam to be Held 1 pm Sunday, October 6th

Free Prep Class Offered October 4-6 as follows:

October 4  from 6 pm to 9 pm

October 5 from 8 am to 5 pm

October 6 from 8 am to Noon

Amateur radio, or ham radio, operators can communicate across towns, around the world, or even into space without the internet or a cell phone and are essential resources during emergencies or recovery efforts following natural disasters such as fires, floods, or hurricanes. For those wishing to obtain a license or upgrade their existing license, Dutchess County Emergency Response, in partnership with the Mount Beacon Amateur Radio Club, will host an FCC licensing exam at 1pm on Sunday, October 6^th at the Emergency Response campus, located at 392 Creek Road, Poughkeepsie. The exam fee is $15, and upon successful completion, a $35 FCC licensing fee will be charged. Pre-registration is required by September 13^th to take the exam.

There will be a free, three-day training course at Emergency Response to review the exam’s material, which is from the ARRL Ham Radio License Manual 5^th Edition, on Friday, October 4^th from 6-9pm; Saturday, October 5^th from 8am-5pm; and Sunday, October 6^th from 8am-noon. The class is open to the public and free to attend, but registration is required in advance by September 13^th. Participants should obtain and review the manual prior to the first session. While attending the three-day training is recommended, it is not required to take the exam. View the event flyer.
