ANNOUNCING UPSTATE MIDTOWN
An intimate screening room
Grand Opening weekend: September 19-21
Upstate Films, the acclaimed Hudson Valley cultural institution, is opening a new venue in Kingston. Upstate Midtown, a 42-seat screening room, joins the organization’s beloved theaters the Starr Cinema (Rhinebeck, founded 1972) and Orpheum Theatre (Saugerties, founded 1908), along with the Hudson Valley Picture Show, its traveling venue.
Upstate Midtown is located at 591 Broadway, two doors south of the Ulster Performing Arts Center, in a former barber shop. It’s an experiment: can a vacant storefront be converted into a vibrant gathering place for a neighborhood and city?
The screening room’s grand opening weekend includes:
Orwell: 2+2=5: a sneak peak of a new film by the Oscar-winning director Raoul Peck (I Am Not a Negro)
A Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror: a sneak peek at a new documentary
Linda Linda Linda: a joyous Japanese film, rarely seen in the U.S., that celebrates a teenage girls’ band
Tickets available beginning Friday, September 4 at www.upstatefilms.org
