Meet at the Visitor Center. Lecture will take place inside the mansion.
Cornelia Livingston’s sewing table is one of the most eye-catching pieces in Clermont’s collection. Join us for an in-depth discussion on the material history and the systems of labor and industry hidden beneath the surface of this beautiful mother-of-pearl and papier-mâché piece from the mid-nineteenth century. This lecture will cover the origins of papier-mâché and lacquer work furniture before diving into the history of the pearling industry before and throughout the industrial revolution.
Please note: The cost of the event is $5 per person, please be prepared to pay at the door. Space is limited. Visitors must register in advance.
This event will meet in the Visitor Center, but the lecture will take place in the mansion.
