Six Families to Receive Vehicles from ‘Way to Work’ Program
On Wednesday, June 4 at 10:30 a.m., Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino will present six local families with gently used vehicles, earned through their participation in the “Way to Work” program, run through the Dutchess County Workforce Investment Board and funded by the County. These vehicles will assist the families in obtaining and retaining employment, acquiring jobs with more hours or higher pay or gaining access to higher education to increase their wage potential. A brief event, including remarks by a past vehicle recipient and the presentation of keys to each of this year’s recipients, will be held inside the Dutchess One Stop Career Center, 191 Main Street in Poughkeepsie; the recipients will then take ownership of their vehicles in the One Stop’s parking lot following the event.
Established in 2001, the program, formerly known as “Wheels to Work,” is designed to help low-income Dutchess County residents get and keep a job, providing them reliable transportation to and from work. Qualified participants must come from a family that receives Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) from the Dutchess County Department of Community and Family Services, or whose family income is less than 200 percent of the poverty level.
Representatives from the media are invited and encouraged to attend. Media is asked to park in the Dutchess One Stop Career Center parking lot, and DCWIB staff will direct them inside to the event. Please confirm your attendance by calling (845) 486-2000 or email cpillus@dutchessny.gov.
