Alianza Cultural de Kingston, the Folk Arts Program at Arts Mid-Hudson, and Kingston Library will present a morning of activities and a Spanish language book giveaway for children in the third through fifth grades

The first 50 children will receive a book bag with a copy of the Popol Vuh, a classic K’iche’ tale recounting the mythology of the K’iche’ of Guatemala. The K’iche’ people are part of the Mayan people who can be found throughout Southern Mexico Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador. They will also receive Mitos, Cuentos y Leyendas de America Latina by Alejandro Alcalá, a collection of myths, tales, and legends from around South America. Both books will be in Spanish. The book bag will also have a drawing pad, colored pencils, and a Spanish-to-English Dictionary for the family.
The festival will include make-and-take art activities related to the books. Snacks will also be provided.
Alianza Cultural de Kingston works with the diverse Hispanic communities in Kingston to preserve, protect, and defend their languages and cultures while sharing and celebrating their traditions, arts, cuisines, and values with the broader community.
