Visit USS SLATER Monday, 11 November 2024, for Veterans Day! On this day we celebrate all Veterans; their sacrifice, bravery, selflessness, and commitment to protect this nation. While we will remember service men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, let us also remember Veterans Day is a celebration of the more than 18 million veterans still living today. Join us for our ceremony aboard USS SLATER at 9 a.m.

Veterans Day began as a commemoration of the end of World War I. Fighting ceased when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month in 1918. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.” The observance of Veterans Day not only preserves the historical significance of the date but helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day. A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

Admission is charged for tours of USS SLATER. Adults: $12.00, Seniors: $10.00, Children: $8.00, and children 5 years old and under are admitted for free.

USS SLATER, the last Destroyer Escort afloat in America, is open to the public for her 27th season in Albany. Guided tours start every 30 minutes. No reservations are required, through tickets can also be purchased on our website, www.ussslater.org. USS SLATER is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 AM to 4 PM, through Sunday 1 December 2024. The ship is located in Downtown Albany at the intersection of Broadway and Quay Street.
