Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino is teaming up with the Wappingers Central School District to host an informational Skilled Trades Fair in April to give local students and young adults the opportunity to learn more about different career paths available in the region. Representatives from various trades will be on hand at this free event for attendees to ask questions and to learn about future opportunities.
“As someone who did not take the traditional career path, I am thrilled to again partner with the Wappingers Central School District to host an informational Skilled Trades Fair to show students and young adults different opportunities here in our local community,” said Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino. “There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach when it comes to determining your future, and this event is all about showing additional possibilities that are available so we can ensure they are as prepared as possible. Our community is home to so many unique opportunities, especially in the trades, and that also often comes with great-paying careers and potential for growth.”
Local trade organizations and businesses are encouraged to participate. There is no fee to participate. Those interested can complete a participation form online athttps://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TradesFair2024 or can contact the Dutchess County Executive’s Office by calling 845-486-2000 or emailing CountyExec@dutchessny.gov to request a form. Space is limited and spots will be secured on a first-come, first-served basis. Participation form submission deadline is Friday, April 12th.
Dr. Dwight Bonk, Superintendent of the Wappingers Central School District said, “County Executive Serino is to be commended for all of her efforts in promoting skilled trades fairs as well as her unwavering commitment to career and technical education. Many businesses have indicated that the demand for skilled employees in these careers continues to increase in our region. Business, Education, and Government must continue to work collaboratively by developing effective partnerships to provide our students with the necessary information, skills, and training to enter these fields and address our collective workforce development needs.”
The Skilled Trades Fair is a valuable chance for businesses to network and connect with local students and young adults who may be interested in learning more about pursuing a career in their respective trade. There is ongoing need for skilled workers, and this event will highlight the many opportunities for high school graduates to pursue lucrative career pathways with a certificate or license through trade schools and other programs.
