Sue Serino and Walkway Partner to Raise
Awareness for Breast Cancer
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino, in partnership with the Walkway Over the Hudson, invites residents to attend a free “Breast Cancer Awareness Day” event on Saturday, October 4th, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the Poughkeepsie side of the Walkway Over the Hudson, 61 Parker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. This event is part of an ongoing effort to provide residents with the opportunity to connect with local organizations and health services. View the event flyer.
Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino, who has been in remission from a breast cancer diagnosis in 2020, said, “When I was going through my own breast cancer journey, what meant the most was knowing that I wasn’t alone. That’s why I’m so grateful we can bring our community together at the Walkway Over the Hudson this October – to connect with organizations who not only support those facing a diagnosis but also provide preventative care and screenings that can make all the difference. Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a reminder to care for ourselves and one another, to make the appointment, and to put our health first.”
Among the organizations that will be in attendance, with information and resources, include:
- Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation
- Dutchess County Department of Health
- Dyson Breast Center at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, part of the Nuvance Health Cancer Institute
- Sparrows Nest
- MidHudson Regional Hospital, a member of WMC Health
In addition to resources, there will be family-friendly craft activities to highlight breast cancer awareness and show support for survivors and those currently dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis.
This event is free and open to the public, no RSVP required. For more information, emailCountyExec@dutchessny.gov or call the Dutchess County Executive’s Office at 845-486-2000.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is also a reminder to “Make the Appointment” – whether it’s for a mammogram, an annual exam, or another preventive checkup that helps protect your health. Residents can take the pledge and learn more by visiting DutchessNY.gov/MakeTheAppointment.
