Sustainable Hudson Valley is hosting the regional premier of Legion 44, a beautiful, powerful, challenging, not to be missed feature documentary film that has already been shown in five countries.
Join us on April 21, 6:30 pm at Upstate Films Starr Cinema in Rhinebeck (6415 Montgomery Street, Rhinebeck) for the Hudson Valley premier and a conversation after with director Leila Conners. Legion 44 is about the global technology development movement to pull carbon dioxide out of the sky and store it in soils, building materials, and other beneficial uses. These new technologies must be deployed sustainably, at scales that do not deplete resources and using renewable energy. Legion 44 tells the story of entrepreneurs and industry groups who are planning ahead to do this right.

Leila Conners founded Tree Media Group in 1996. With a background in international politics, Leila set out to build a production company that creates media to support and sustain civil society by telling inspiring stories. Leila’s first feature-length documentary, The 11th Hour, was co-created with Leonardo DiCaprio. The film included 54 leading thinkers and scientists about the state of the world and the state of the human condition. She then made two other feature films: The Arrow of Time (2017) about Mikhail Gorbachev’s efforts to negotiate nuclear arms reductions with the United States, and Ice on Fire (2019) about bringing CO2 out of the atmosphere to bring global temperatures down. Conners has also written two short films with Leonardo DiCaprio, “Global Warning” and “Water Planet.”
