The 2025 Legislative Session is in full swing and New York’s library community still needs your help. Let’s make it clear just how many library supporters are standing behind our cause.

The link below provides a script for what to say and a guide to our budgetary priorities this year. In the library’s district, our state representatives are Michelle Hinchey and Sarahana Shrestha.

The President has also issued an executive order calling for the “elimination” of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The collapse of IMLS could have a ripple effect at the NYS Division of Library Development, whose operations are completely funded through the IMLS Grants to States program.

It is critical to communicate to federal legislators that this law be uninterrupted. Please contact your representatives and ask them to defend IMLS’s Section 9141 guarantees to state libraries.
