Mansion
Can you find them all?
Did you know that Clermont was home to people from all over the world? Each of them brought their own cultural traditions and influence to the mansion. Most customs incorporate a mixture of holiday figures, winter creatures, and even “Merry Monsters!” Some are small and mischievous — like the Swedish Tomte or the French Lutins, and others are cruel and evaluating, like Krampus or Belsnickel. Though they usually stay hidden, this year they’ve crept out of the woodwork and taken over the mansion! Now it’s up to you to find them all!
Enjoy a scavenger hunt through the mansion while learning about the holiday traditions of the people who worked for the Livingstons, from as far away as Japan to as close as Germantown. The “Merry Monsters,” lovingly depicted by local artists, showcase the holiday and cultural beliefs of real people who worked at Clermont in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This will be a great adventure for families with curious kids who love to read or parents who cherish the opportunity to read with their children. End your visit with a snack and a monster mini wreath class inside our historic kitchen.
Please note: Space is limited. This event is free of charge, but visitors must register in advance at bookeo.com/Clermont
