SERINO ENCOURAGES THINK ACCESSIBLE COMMUNITY CERTIFICATION APPLICANTS
County to host several ADA training opportunities in August, September
Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino urges local businesses and organizations to apply for the Think Accessible Community Certification, a new program recognizing those who go above and beyond to create inclusive, accessible spaces for individuals of all abilities.
Since its launch earlier this year, the County has already received several nominations for community-minded organizations taking steps to make Dutchess County more welcoming for everyone.
“Our Think Accessible Community Certification celebrates those who are taking concrete steps to make Dutchess County a more inclusive place for all,” said Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino. “This program not only recognizes these efforts but also encourages others to follow suit, ensuring that everyone in our community — residents and visitors alike — has the opportunity to fully participate in all we have to offer.”
The Think Accessible Community Certification is part of the County’s broader ThinkDIFFERENTLY initiative to promote accessibility and inclusion. The program awards gold, silver, and bronze certifications based on an organization’s progress toward ADA compliance and additional accommodations made for individuals with disabilities. Certified organizations will appear on a public map at ThinkDIFFERENTLY.net and will receive a window decal to showcase their commitment to accessibility.
Organizations countywide, from local shops and restaurants to libraries, community centers and large institutions, are encouraged to apply now to be part of the first round of certifications, which are expected to be announced in September.
To help make the community more inclusive for all individuals, the County invites municipal officials, organizations, businesses and residents to attend an upcoming training, which will offer specific guidance on meeting ADA standards and implementing meaningful accommodation. Attendance at these workshops will aid those seeking Think Accessible Community Certification. Workshops will be held at the County’s Department of Mental Health Training Room, 230 North Road in Poughkeepsie, on the following dates:
