The Seventh Sense Care Collective on Community Death Care
Community Room
Monday, Nov. 18, 2-3pm
Representatives from Seventh Sense Care Collective will share information on the collective’s services, community engagement, educational offerings, and goals for opening a home for the dying. Their talk will explore what it means to be a death doula, what the community death care movement entails, and what’s involved in creating a home for the dying.
About the Speakers:
Karen Bellone, MFA, is a doula for the dying, an educator, and the founder of the Seventh Sense Care Collective in Hudson Valley NY; a nonprofit organization providing volunteer-driven community death care. Karen is also an award-winning photographer and filmmaker and is currently in post-production on Voyager, a feature film about the life and work of artist Michelle Stuart, whose seven decade career engages with the ephemeral and elemental nature of existence.
Kirby Lee is a Doula and Caregiver committed to conscious, compassionate end-of-life care. She is a co-creator of The Seventh Sense Care Collective and a Doula and Caregiver with Hudson Valley Hospice. With a background in the arts and social justice work, as well as training with the Elisabeth Kübler-Ross Foundation and with other death care workers, Kirby draws on the wisdom of nature and her experiences with the dying to inform her care.
